Ingredients for the Dough :

2 ½ cups flour

½ teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons of sugar

225 g butter, in pieces

1 large egg

2 tablespoons cold water

For the Filling :

6-8 apples

¾ cup sugar

¼ cup unsalted butter

2 tablespoons of flour

A pinch of grated nutmeg

2 teaspoons of cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough :

In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt and sugar. Rub in the butter pieces with your fingers until you get a sandy texture. Add the lightly beaten egg. If you prefer, you can use a fork to mix.

If the dough gets too warm, refrigerate it for a few minutes. If you notice that it is too dry, add the cold water little by little, avoiding pouring it all at once so that the dough does not become sticky.

Divide the dough into two portions, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least one hour.

2. Prepare the Filling :

Peel and cut the apples into quarters. Place them in a bowl and add the lemon juice, sugar, salt and cinnamon. Mix well.

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the flour. Stir in the apples and stir for about 2 minutes until the sugar is absorbed. Cover the pan and cook for an additional 7 minutes to soften the apples. Remove from heat and set aside.

3. Assembling the Foot :

Preheat the oven to 230°C. Remove one of the dough portions from the refrigerator and roll it out into a circular mould, covering the bottom and edges. Place the apples on the base.

Roll out the second piece of dough into a circle and place it over the filling. Make a few “X” shaped cuts in the surface to allow steam to escape. Alternatively, you can cut the dough into strips and place them in a crisscross pattern over the apples.

4. Bake :

Bake for about 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden.
